Water Heater Maintenance

Why is water heater maintenance important?

Proper water heater maintenance in an RV is essential to ensure a reliable supply of hot water and prevent costly repairs. Over time, sediment buildup, mineral deposits, and corrosion can reduce efficiency, leading to longer heating times and potential damage to the tank or heating elements. Regular flushing, checking the anode rod (for those with a tank), and inspecting the burner or heating elements help extend the lifespan of the unit and maintain optimal performance. Neglecting maintenance can result in leaks, poor heating, or even safety hazards like gas leaks or electrical issues. Keeping up with routine care ensures a steady supply of hot water while avoiding unexpected breakdowns on the road.

  • If you suspect there is an issue with your water heater and you have checked the easy suspects please contact your local RV dealerships service department.

  • Check the Anode Rod – If applicable, inspect and replace it when worn to prevent tank corrosion.

  • Inspect the Burner and Vent – Clean out debris and check for proper flame operation in gas models.

  • Test the Pressure Relief Valve – Ensure it functions correctly to prevent pressure buildup.

  • Check Electrical Components – Inspect heating elements and wiring for damage in electric models.
